Asghar Farhadi, highly esteemed director of The Past and A Separation, has done it again, winning the 2017 Oscar for Best Foreign Language movie. The movie follows a young couple living in Tehran, Emad and Rana, who move into a new apartment after their old flat is damaged. Eventually, an incident linked to the previous tenant of their new home, who seems to have been a prostitute, dramatically changes the couple’s life. Parallel to this, both have roles in Arthur Miller’s play Death of a Salesman. A.O. Scott from the NY Times says that “Farhadi …. builds a solid and suspenseful plot out of ordinary incidents, and packs it with rich and resonant ideas”. This stunning film also won Best Actor & Best screenplay at Cannes in 2016.
